Mechanical Engineer

About the role

You will own the mechanical design of ruggedized electronic enclosures for low‑altitude airspace sensing systems, turning bench prototypes into field‑ready hardware that can survive tropical rain, vibration and shock. Reporting to the CTO, you are the mechanical owner of the product.

Key responsibilities

• Design and iterate sealed enclosures, radomes, mounts and thermal paths in SolidWorks, delivering production‑ready drawings with GD&T.
• Perform hand calculations and ANSYS simulations for steady‑state and transient thermal performance, structural load, shock and vibration.
• Develop waterproofing solutions to IP65/IP67 standards, design to MIL‑STD‑810 environmental profiles, and create test plans.
• Select and qualify materials (aluminum, polymers, gaskets) and manage TAA‑compliant supply chain documentation.
• Produce 3D‑printed prototypes (ASA, PPS‑CF) and transition parts to machining or molding as needed.

Required profile

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with 3‑6 years of product design experience, including at least one shipped outdoor hardware.
• Hands‑on experience designing sealed electronic enclosures and managing heat, vibration and environmental constraints.
• U.S. person status under ITAR and ability to work onsite in Hatillo, Puerto Rico.

Required skills

• SolidWorks (top‑down assemblies, sheet‑metal, GD&T drawings).
• Thermal and structural analysis using hand calculations and ANSYS (or equivalent).
• Professional‑grade 3D printing (ASA, PPS‑CF) and design for additive manufacturing.
• Waterproofing/IP rating design and MIL‑STD‑810 testing knowledge.
• Material compliance (TAA, traceability) and documentation discipline (BOMs, revision control).
