Physician – Surgery Service Chief

About the role

The incumbent will serve as the Surgery Service Chief for the VA Caribbean Healthcare System, a high‑complexity facility. Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the role combines clinical leadership with full administrative responsibility for planning, developing, coordinating, directing, evaluating, and supervising surgical services.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall clinical and operational leadership for the surgical program, ensuring high‑quality patient care.
• Plan, develop, and coordinate surgical services, including staffing, budgeting, and resource allocation.
• Lead compliance, accreditation, and regulatory oversight activities.
• Drive quality‑assurance and performance‑improvement initiatives to elevate clinical outcomes.

Required profile

• U.S. citizenship or eligible non‑citizen status as defined by VA policy.
• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an approved school.
• Full, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
• Completion of an ACGME‑ or AOA‑approved residency in a core surgical specialty, or equivalent experience as defined by VA standards.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English and basic written and spoken Spanish.
