Senior Engineer – Protection, Automation & Control (PAC)

About the role

The Senior Engineer leads the execution and coordination of complex engineering activities for LUMA Energy, influencing project decisions and ensuring safe, reliable power delivery. This role tackles non‑routine challenges in protection, automation, and control while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. The engineer also acts as an expert witness and represents LUMA in industry technical activities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and support projects within scope, schedule and cost.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary design activities and review functional specifications.
• Develop and update single‑line diagrams, design drawings and equipment specifications.
• Provide technical support to field and construction teams and conduct high‑level QA/QC design reviews.
• Manage work planning, budgeting, cost estimating and reporting to senior management.
• Support material procurement as a subject‑matter expert.

Required profile

• BS in Electrical Engineering (ABET‑accredited) with at least eight years of relevant experience.
• Professional Engineering license issued by the Puerto Rico Examining Board.
• Proven ability to make sound technical judgments and mentor junior engineers.
• Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience in a utility regulated environment.
