Cybersecurity R&D Engineer III

About the role

Hewlett Packard Enterprise is hiring a Cybersecurity R&D Engineer III in San Juan, Puerto Rico, within the Junos Cybersecurity R&D organization of the HPE Networking business unit. The team builds and sustains secure routers, switches and firewalls running Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved, covering system security features, applied cryptography, security certifications and Secure Development Lifecycle (SDL) practices, including AI-assisted vulnerability discovery and remediation. The role is hybrid, with about two days per week in an HPE office.

Key responsibilities

• Support security certifications including NIST FIPS 140, Common Criteria and the EU Cybersecurity Resilience Act (EUCRA)
• Develop and enhance product security capabilities such as certification gap analysis, risk-based threat modelling, static and dynamic code/device analysis, penetration testing, hardware security assessments and AI-enhanced vulnerability management
• Adopt new cybersecurity technologies, take part in developing the cybersecurity roadmap and execute it
• Advise engineering managers, platform teams and product line managers on cybersecurity design and development

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity or an adjacent technical field
• Typically 4-6 years of experience
• Experience driving product security certifications (FIPS 140 and Common Criteria) from gap analysis through third-party lab submission, and quick ramp-up on EU CRA
• Experience using AI systems for defensive security, including vulnerability discovery and management, with awareness of AI governance and human-in-the-loop approaches

Required skills

• Networking security protocols (TLS, SSH, IPsec) and cryptography in networking products
• Programming in C (preferred) and Python; Rust is a bonus
• Strong technical communication, verbal and written
