Field Reimbursement Specialist

About the role

The Field Reimbursement Specialist (FRS) is a field-based asset supporting patient access to AbbVie products through direct collaboration with Health Care Providers (HCPs) and their staff. Acting as the principal access liaison for HCP offices across Puerto Rico, the FRS helps navigate access and reimbursement challenges, covering formulary status, coverage criteria, prior authorization, coding and reimbursement requirements, and support program eligibility. The position is island-wide and requires driving a personal or company vehicle.

Key responsibilities

• Educate HCPs and their staff on AbbVie's patient support programs and reimbursement resources
• Explain product acquisition channels, specialty pharmacy networks, and access options under Commercial, Medicare and Medicaid plans
• Develop tailored access solutions for each account, anticipating prior authorization, coverage determination and escalation needs
• Serve as subject matter expert on payer policy, formulary status and coding and claims submission
• Liaise with the Access and Reimbursement support center (Hub) for prescription status updates and support program eligibility
• Build and maintain trusted relationships with accounts and providers across the territory, acting as a consistent point of contact
• Track changes in payer policies, healthcare legislation and managed care trends and turn them into actionable insights

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or higher in science, business, public health, pharmacy or a related field
• At least 5 years in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, including 3 years in Managed Health Care, Payer Account Management, Specialty Pharmacy or Access and Reimbursement; account management or case management experience is a plus
• Fluent in English and Spanish, with strong written, verbal and presentation skills
• Valid driver's license, good driving record and ability to travel throughout Puerto Rico

Required skills

• Deep understanding of commercial, Medicare Advantage, and Medicaid dynamics, and of Parts A, B, C and D
• Knowledge of drug acquisition, dispensing and distribution models, including specialty pharmacy, white-bagging and brown-bagging
• Strong territory and account management skills, including planning, prioritization and influencing HCPs
