Medical Supply Technician – San Juan, PR

About the role

The Medical Supply Technician provides essential medical and surgical supplies to wards, clinics, operating rooms and other facilities within the VA Caribbean Healthcare System in San Juan, PR. The role involves receiving, storing, bar‑coding, replenishing and distributing sterile and non‑sterile items while ensuring inventory accuracy and compliance with aseptic standards.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, scan, bar‑code, store and distribute medical and surgical supplies, instrument sets and equipment.
• Pull stock for delivery, replenish inventory, and monitor expiration dates, rotating stock as needed.
• Perform daily inventory counts using bar‑coding equipment and resolve discrepancies.
• Maintain computerized inventory records and respond to customer inquiries about supplies.
• Deliver supplies and movable medical equipment in a timely manner, ensuring sterility and operational condition.
• Prepare specialty carts and clean assigned secondary areas following aseptic principles.
• Monitor and control critical supplies, removing out‑dated items from use.

Required profile

• Valid state driver’s license.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English and Spanish.
• At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑4 level in medical supply distribution.
• Four years of post‑secondary education or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required skills

• Bar coding equipment operation.
• Computerized inventory management system usage.
