Principal Systems/Software Engineer - Cloud & On-Premise Software

About the role

Hewlett Packard Enterprise is looking for a Principal Systems/Software Engineer for cloud and on-premise software development, based in San Juan. The role is hybrid, with about two days per week spent in an HPE office. The position leads technical direction for security management platforms (SD Cloud and SD On-Prem) and guides cross-functional engineering initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Own several core software modules end-to-end and solve technical problems in fast-paced development and debugging environments
• Lead and mentor junior engineers and coach the team on best practices and knowledge sharing
• Develop organization-wide architectures and methodologies for software systems across multiple platforms and organizations
• Evaluate new technologies, innovations and outsourced development partners, and plan their integration into the architecture
• Review designs and projects against development guidelines and standards, giving feedback to improve quality
• Influence technical leadership, outsourced partners and industry standards groups, and guide less experienced staff

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or Engineering
• Typically 10+ years of experience
• History of innovation, with patents or deployed software design solutions
• Experience in globally distributed engineering teams across time zones and cultures
• Mastery of English and the local language, and the ability to present architectures and negotiate at business-unit and executive levels

Required skills

• Cloud products with microservices architecture and extensive cloud application knowledge
• Core technologies: Go, Java (Spring Boot, Jakarta EE), PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, gRPC, REST, OpenAPI/Swagger
• Cloud technologies: Apache Kafka, Redis, Docker, Kubernetes, Prometheus, load balancers such as Ambassador
• Other: Bazel, Maven, Helm, OAuth2, SAML, JWT, Jenkins CI/CD
• Nice to have: security domain experience and network management systems development
