Senior Director Engineering - AML14 Drug Product

About the role

Amgen is looking for a Senior Director Engineering to lead its Engineering organization supporting the Formulation, Filling & Inspection (FF&I) businesses in Juncos, Puerto Rico. The role provides technical leadership for about 150 people across Maintenance & Reliability, Equipment, Utilities, Automation and Inspection Engineering, shaping strategy, assets, technology and operating model for key drug product manufacturing operations.

Key responsibilities

• Set the engineering strategy, operating model, asset roadmap, workforce plan and technical priorities across the five engineering areas.
• Own the maintenance and reliability system and improve equipment availability, OEE, changeovers, campaign execution and decontamination reliability through preventive, predictive and optimized maintenance.
• Transform reliability from reactive to predictive, using root-cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions, condition monitoring and early warning of weak signals.
• Shape asset lifecycle and obsolescence strategies, including replacement planning, critical spares, capacity, upgrades, utilities and business continuity, and partner on capital investments and facility modernization.
• Maintain safety, quality, cGMP compliance and inspection readiness, and prepare equipment and systems for product launches, technology transfers, PPQs and commercial implementation.
• Build and lead the organization through workforce planning, talent development, coaching, performance management and succession planning.
• Advance digital, AI and operational transformation, including automation, real-time visibility, predictive technologies, Lean practices and responsible use of AI.
• Manage the engineering labor budget and related investments, allocating resources by supply priority, risk and asset condition, and partner with Manufacturing, Quality, Validation, Supply Chain and regulators.

Required profile

• Doctorate in Engineering with 5 years of engineering or manufacturing support experience, or Master's with 9 years, or Bachelor's with 11 years.
• At least 5 years of people-management and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects or programs, or directing resource allocation.
• Preferred: significant engineering, maintenance and reliability experience.
