Senior Embedded Linux BSP Engineer (Hybrid)

About the role

Collins Aerospace is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the design, development, and maintenance of customized Linux OS ecosystems for a variety of hardware platforms. The position is based in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico and follows a hybrid schedule (3 days onsite, 2 days remote).

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and continuously improve Linux OS components including kernel, bootloader, device drivers, and board support packages (BSP) for multiple hardware boards.
• Maintain build toolchains, root file systems, and custom Linux distributions using Buildroot.
• Collaborate with FPGA, hardware, and systems teams to integrate software into mission‑critical products such as high‑frequency radios and software‑defined radios.
• Perform root‑cause analysis of complex hardware‑software issues and support debugging using schematics, logic analyzers, and Wireshark.
• Prepare software builds for simulation environments, reference platforms, and target hardware.

Required profile

• U.S. citizenship (required for access to program information).
• Degree in STEM field with at least 5 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with at least 3 years of experience.
• Ability to obtain a U.S. Department of Defense security clearance.
• Professional proficiency in written and spoken English.

Required skills

• Embedded C/C++ development.
• Scripting with Bash and Python.
• Embedded Linux device driver development and board bring‑up.
• Debugging hardware‑software interactions using schematics, logic analyzers, and Wireshark.
• Version control with GIT and SVN.
• Packaging custom Linux distributions with Buildroot.
• Experience with Agile methodologies and DevSecOps practices.
