Senior Engineer, Substation Engineering Grounding Systems Design

About the role

The Senior Engineer, Substation Engineering Grounding Systems Design is a full‑time, on‑site position based in San Juan. You will lead the design and analysis of grounding systems for high‑voltage substations, ensuring compliance with electrical codes, standards, and utility requirements while prioritising safety and reliability.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and analysis of substation grounding systems.
• Perform detailed engineering calculations and develop grounding layout specifications.
• Review and approve design documents and coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Conduct field reviews and support troubleshooting of grounding‑related issues.
• Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and designers.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering practices and requirements management for substation projects.
• Ensure designs prioritize safety, reliability, and system resilience.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline; advanced degree or PE licensure preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in utility or power‑systems engineering, preferably in transmission and distribution substations.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for grounding performance, protection, and reliability issues.
• Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
• Ability to work on‑site in San Juan.
