Senior Systems Software Engineer (Cloud & Distributed Systems)

About the role

Hewlett Packard Enterprise is looking for a Senior Systems Software Engineer to lead the development of its Linux system management and monitoring infrastructure. The role sits at the intersection of high-level application logic and low-level system internals, building Go-based tools that manage software lifecycles, monitor service health and ensure system-wide observability. It is a hybrid position, with about two days per week spent in an HPE office.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain Golang applications for Linux user-space management, focused on Debian-based distributions.
• Develop programmatic solutions to monitor installed packages, manage updates via apt/dpkg APIs and ensure version consistency.
• Design systems that track service status and health metrics, and automate log retrieval and parsing for fast troubleshooting.
• Oversee packaging of internal software into production-ready .deb files, including post-install scripts and dependency management.
• Lead the transition toward more modular, service-oriented system tools while keeping peak performance in a Linux environment.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent.
• 7 to 10+ years of software development experience.
• U.S. citizenship required, as the role covers services in a FedRAMP High compliant environment.
• Ability to communicate product architectures and design proposals, and to negotiate with business unit and executive levels.

Required skills

• Strong experience with Go (Golang) for systems-level programming.
• Proficiency in Python for scripting and automation.
• Experience designing distributed systems or microservice architectures.
• General understanding of modern deployment environments (containers, Kubernetes) is a plus.
• Networking concepts or device management systems experience is a plus.
