Staff Site Reliability Engineer

About the role

Hewlett Packard Enterprise is hiring a Staff Site Reliability Engineer in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The role is hybrid, with an average of two days per week spent in an HPE office. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will design, build and optimize cloud infrastructure and deployment systems, directly affecting scalability, security and operational efficiency. The position impacts technical components of HPE products regularly and is expected to provide team leadership and mentoring.

Key responsibilities

• Enhance Infrastructure as Code (IAC) and enforce best practices.
• Optimize cloud infrastructure for scalability, security and cost-effectiveness.
• Develop internal tools to streamline cloud platform operations.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows using FluxCD and Jenkins.
• Address container image vulnerabilities and standardize remediation processes.
• Build Amazon Machine Images (AMIs) aligned with CIS and STIG benchmarks.
• Strengthen monitoring, alerting and observability with Prometheus, Grafana and logging tools.
• Troubleshoot complex production issues and tune distributed systems such as Apache Kafka and Cassandra.
• Collaborate with development, security and operations teams to align infrastructure with application needs.

Required profile

• Minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience in Infra Ops, Dev Ops or Site Reliability Engineering.
• Strong experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and GCP.
• Proven track record in implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience managing distributed systems like Apache Kafka and Cassandra.
• Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills, with a strong sense of ownership.

Required skills

• Linux, especially Debian-based distributions.
• Infrastructure as Code tools: Terraform, Packer and Ansible.
• Programming in Python and/or Golang.
• Containerization (Docker) and orchestration (AWS EKS, GCP GKE).
• GitOps workflows and monitoring/logging tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).
• Relational (SQL) and non-relational databases.
• Background in security and familiarity with security programs.

Preferred: open-source contributions, a background in security engineering, and accessibility accommodations available upon request.
