Traffic Engineer (Professional Engineer License Required)

About the role

O&M is seeking an experienced Senior Traffic Operations and Safety Engineer (P.E.) to join its growing traffic and transportation team. The role focuses on planning, analysis, design, and implementation of traffic operations and safety projects while supporting business development and mentoring junior staff.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage traffic operations and safety projects from planning through implementation, including preparation of engineering plans, specifications, and estimates.
• Perform traffic engineering analyses such as capacity studies, safety and crash analysis, signal warrant evaluations, and corridor, intersection, and network studies.
• Develop traffic signal, signing, and pavement marking designs and coordinate construction sequencing and traffic control operations (MOT).
• Prepare technical reports, design studies, and engineering recommendations for municipal and PRHTA clients.
• Coordinate with local, county, and federal agencies, including FDOT, and review work of junior engineers, providing mentorship.
• Support proposal development, marketing efforts, and business development initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering; Master’s degree in Transportation Engineering preferred.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Puerto Rico (required).
• 8–10 years of progressive experience in traffic operations and safety engineering.
• Strong knowledge of PRHTA and municipal traffic standards, manuals, and procedures.

Required skills

• Proficiency with traffic analysis software: SYNCHRO, SimTraffic, HCS.
• Experience with microsimulation tools such as VISSIM or SIDRA.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Familiarity with traffic safety programs, systemic safety analysis, and crash modification factors (CMFs).
