Database Administrator (SQL/Epic) – San Juan, PR

About the role

Optum Insight is seeking a hands‑on Database Administrator to manage and support MS SQL Server environments, including Epic‑based data warehouses such as Clarity and Caboodle. The role ensures database reliability, performance, and security while supporting 24/7 health‑care operations.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain MS SQL Server databases and Epic data warehouses.
• Perform daily monitoring, backup/recovery, disaster‑recovery cutovers, and high‑availability failover procedures.
• Design, develop, and manage SSIS packages for automated ETL workflows.
• Execute performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization in collaboration with developers.
• Handle capacity planning, resource forecasting, and storage redundancy.
• Maintain database security, patching, and compliance with HIPAA and other standards.
• Provide 24 × 7 on‑call support, troubleshoot locked resources, and resolve user‑related issues.
• Document technical specifications, runbooks, and knowledge‑transfer materials.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
• 5+ years of DBA experience with Microsoft SQL Server in a healthcare environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work off‑hours, participate in on‑call rotations, and support multiple time zones.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
