Maintenance Worker – Facility & Equipment Maintenance

About the role

The Maintenance Worker is responsible for the upkeep of facilities, infrastructure, and equipment on Culebra Island. The position involves routine cleaning, repairs, and operation of heavy machinery to ensure safe and functional environments for staff and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain restrooms, roads, parking areas, boat ramps, and other public spaces.
• Assist with installation and repair of cabinets, fences, siding, and related structures.
• Operate hand and power tools—including saws, drills, routers, nailers, metal shears, and sanders—to perform maintenance tasks.
• Drive and operate farm tractors, backhoes, mowers, and other equipment for construction and facility upkeep.
• Interpret work orders, equipment manuals, and blueprints to safely complete projects and train staff and volunteers.

Required profile

• U.S. citizen or national; must pass background check, E‑Verify, and physical examination.
• Valid driver’s license and Commercial Driver’s License (Class A) with endorsement.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform heavy lifting (up to 50 lb unassisted).
• Willingness to wear a uniform and comply with safety standards.

Required skills

• Proficiency with hand and power tools (saws, drills, routers, nailers, sanders, metal shears).
• Experience operating tractors, backhoes, mowers, and similar equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and equipment manuals.
• Knowledge of measuring instruments and equipment assembly/repair.
