Molding Engineer

About the role

This Molding Engineer position reports to the Quality Manager and works onsite at ABB's Installation Products Caribe LLC in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico (ELIP Division). The engineer optimizes injection molding methods, processes and equipment to reduce labor hours in line with quality, efficiency, cost and safety goals, and defines the working phase sequence of new production processes to meet product cost and equipment investment budgets.

Key responsibilities

• Improve the value of the injection molding process by eliminating waste and increasing efficiency.
• Define the working phase sequence of new production processes to meet target product cost and equipment investment budget.
• Ensure appropriate production methods, cycle time, equipment performance and materials/components support production targets.
• Identify and recommend improvements, implement improvement projects within timeframe, quality and cost requirements, and approve designs and perform final tests.
• Support production during internal and external process and equipment start-ups, defining action plans and training maintenance and production staff.
• Evaluate new process technologies, define and lead testing activities, approval criteria and external provider choices.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering preferred.
• 3+ years of manufacturing experience and 3+ years in injection molding.
• Ability to resolve conflicts and address employee and management concerns to reach win-win results.
• Strong oral and written communication skills in Spanish and English.
• Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines.

Required skills

• Problem-solving and analytical skills, including FMEA, Lean and Six Sigma.
• Experience with equipment automation is desirable.
