Principal Engineer - Cybersecurity R&D

About the role

Hewlett Packard Enterprise is hiring a Principal Engineer for its Junos Cybersecurity R&D organization within the HPE Networking business unit. The role provides technical leadership and helps build a team at the frontier of cybersecurity, focused on secure routers, switches and firewalls running Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved. It is a hybrid position with about two days per week in an HPE office.

Key responsibilities

• Support security certifications including NIST FIPS 140, Common Criteria and the EU Cybersecurity Resilience Act (EUCRA)
• Drive product security capabilities such as certification gap analysis, risk-based threat modelling, static and dynamic code analysis, penetration testing, hardware security assessments and AI-enhanced vulnerability management
• Evaluate new cybersecurity technologies, help build the cybersecurity roadmap with senior leaders and management, and lead hands-on execution
• Influence decisions of executives, engineering managers, platform teams, product line managers and customers
• Mentor less-experienced staff and raise the standard of cybersecurity design and development

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity or an adjacent technical field
• Typically 10+ years of experience
• Experience driving product security certifications (FIPS 140 and Common Criteria) from gap analysis through to third-party lab submission
• Experience using AI systems for defensive security, including vulnerability discovery and management, with awareness of AI governance and human-in-the-loop approaches

Required skills

• Networking security protocols (TLS, SSH, IPsec) and cryptography
• Programming in C (preferred), Python; Rust is a bonus
• Strong technical communication, verbal and written
