Principal Project Engineer – Design Lead

About the role

Lilly is seeking a Principal Project Engineer to lead design activities for capital projects that support pharmaceutical manufacturing and supply chain expansion. The role involves coordinating design teams, ensuring compliance with standards, and delivering projects on schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Lead identification of applicable engineering design standards, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
• Oversee overall design delivery for capital projects, coordinating conceptual and basic design reviews.
• Develop design requirements, schedules, and manage earned value progress systems with A/E firms.
• Facilitate information flow between design teams and system owners, ensuring design intent is met.
• Resolve design‑related issues, improve efficiency, and support value‑engineering efforts.

Required profile

• BS in Engineering (Chemical or Mechanical preferred) with 8‑10 years of manufacturing or engineering experience in pharma or API networks.
• Strong project management skills and ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Understanding of capital project delivery, A/E design activities, and Lilly technical resources.
• Demonstrated alignment with Lilly values and ability to facilitate complex decision‑making.
