Senior AI Software Developer

About the role

Hewlett Packard Enterprise is hiring a Senior AI Software Developer in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The role is hybrid, with an expectation of working about two days per week from an HPE office. The engineer owns end-to-end delivery of AI features, from design to production, while raising the engineering bar through code quality, reliability and mentoring.

Key responsibilities

• Translate designs into component contracts, APIs and service boundaries, and implement LLM integrations, RAG pipelines, agents, tool/function calling and prompt strategies.
• Fine-tune models, build evaluation harnesses and metrics, set up A/B testing, and run error analysis and prompt refinement.
• Build ETL/ELT pipelines, curate datasets, implement vector indexing and enforce data governance (PII handling, redaction, consent).
• Containerize workloads with Docker, orchestrate with Kubernetes/Helm, and own CI/CD for ML from training to deployment and monitoring.
• Build microservices and async inference paths, integrate with enterprise auth, observability and logging, and write unit, integration and e2e tests.
• Instrument metrics, logs and traces, define SLOs, optimize inference (batching, KV cache, quantization) and implement guardrails and safety filters.
• Apply secure coding practices, manage secrets and encryption, and ensure compliance with data residency, consent and audit requirements.
• Review designs and PRs, mentor L3 engineers, and coordinate with AI Architects, Data Engineers, QA and Product.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, data science, machine learning, AI or a closely related quantitative discipline.
• Typically 7-10 years of experience.
• Good networking knowledge.
