Senior Systems Software Engineer (Cloud & Distributed Systems)

About the role

Hewlett Packard Enterprise is seeking a Senior Systems Software Engineer to lead the development of Linux system management and monitoring infrastructure for its Debian‑based platforms. The position is hybrid, requiring an average of two days per week on‑site at the San Juan office.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain Go‑based tools for Linux user‑space management, focusing on package lifecycle, health monitoring, and observability.
• Develop programmatic solutions that interact with apt/dpkg APIs to ensure version consistency and automated updates.
• Oversee Debian packaging of internal software, including .deb creation, post‑install scripting, and dependency handling.
• Lead architectural transitions toward modular, service‑oriented system tools while preserving performance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• 7–10+ years of software development experience, with a focus on systems‑level programming.
• U.S. citizenship required for work in a FedRAMP High compliant environment.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities and excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Go (Golang) for systems‑level development.
• Experience with Python for scripting and automation.
• Hands‑on knowledge of apt/dpkg package management and Debian packaging processes.
• Familiarity with microservices design and distributed system concepts.
• Understanding of modern deployment environments such as containers and Kubernetes (optional but beneficial).
