About the role
The Staff Civil Engineer will join multidisciplinary project teams to design and construct electrical substations and related utility infrastructure in San Juan. The role involves adapting civil plans to budget, design and client requirements while ensuring high‑quality, world‑class outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Lead civil engineering efforts for assigned substation projects and support larger multidisciplinary teams.
- Perform site design including grading, drainage, stormwater management, erosion control, access roads and overall site development.
- Prepare drainage reports and specialized engineering calculations.
- Coordinate with clients, surveyors, geotechnical engineers, permitting agencies, contractors and other disciplines to develop and execute designs.
- Manage civil scope, schedule, budget and quality objectives, and support permitting activities with local, state and regulatory agencies.
- Participate in client meetings, site visits, construction support, respond to RFIs and provide construction‑phase engineering assistance.
- Direct, mentor and provide technical guidance to assistant engineers and designers.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (ABET‑accredited) with 2–3 years of civil engineering experience, preferably in consulting.
- Alternatively, a master’s degree with 2 years experience or a bachelor’s in engineering technology with FE exam passed.
- Strong knowledge of standard civil engineering techniques, grading, drainage and stormwater management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, analytical problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills.
- Engineers in Training (EIT) certification strongly preferred.
Required skills
- AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D.
- PLS, PLS‑CADD, RISA‑3D, MathCADD, and other hydraulic/hydrologic/pavement analysis programs.
- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
