Electrical Technician

About the role

ABB is hiring an Electrical Technician in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, within its Smart Power division. The role reports to the Production Development Specialist and supports the Maintenance team by carrying out daily activities according to agreed maintenance guidelines and procedures, while improving the efficiency of equipment and the production line. The work model is onsite, and the candidate must be able to work on any of the three production shifts.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to emergencies and breakdowns.
• Set calibration and adjust equipment, machinery and instruments to meet production specifications.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical systems, machinery and production equipment.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical faults, finding root causes and applying effective solutions.
• Install, repair and replace electrical components such as motors, sensors, drives, switches, relays, circuit breakers and control panels.
• Read and interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, technical manuals and automation schematics.
• Carry out electrical testing, calibration and commissioning.
• Support troubleshooting on PLC-controlled systems and industrial automation equipment.

Required profile

• Technical diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Automation or a related field.
• 2-5 years of manufacturing experience.
• Basic knowledge of English.
• Work authorization permitting work for ABB in the US.
• Availability to work night shifts, weekends and on a continuous shift schedule if required.

Required skills

• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams and technical documentation.
• Strong troubleshooting skills on electrical and automation systems.
• Knowledge of industrial electrical systems, motors, inverters, sensors and PLC fundamentals.
• Familiarity with electrical safety regulations and lockout/tagout procedures.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office and standard computer applications.
