Civil Project Engineer

About the role

The Civil Project Engineer will work on‑site in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, planning, designing and overseeing civil engineering projects for highway infrastructure managed by Metropistas.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review technical drawings and specifications for roadway improvements, drainage systems and site development.
• Coordinate with contractors, consultants and internal teams to ensure projects meet quality, safety, schedule and budget requirements.
• Perform field inspections, support storm‑water and traffic‑management initiatives, and ensure compliance with local regulations and engineering codes.
• Maintain project documentation, prepare progress reports and contribute to continuous‑improvement efforts for highway operations and safety.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field; professional licensure (PE) or progress toward licensure preferred.
• Experience with highway or transportation infrastructure projects and familiarity with local and national engineering codes.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills; ability to work collaboratively on‑site with multidisciplinary teams.

Required skills

• Proficiency with civil design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D or similar.
• Knowledge of storm‑water management and site development design.
• Quality‑control skills to verify construction work, materials and documentation.
• Basic project‑management tool usage.
