Engineering Manager - SRX Security Director

About the role

Hewlett Packard Enterprise is hiring an Engineering Manager for the SRX Security Director in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The role is hybrid, with an average of 2 days per week working from an HPE office. It leads a team of individual contributors who design and develop systems software such as operating systems, compilers, networking tools, utilities, databases and Internet-related tools.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct leadership for a team of individual contributors designing new products, enhancements and updates, and coordinate projects for systems software.
• Manage headcount, deliverables, schedules and costs for multiple ongoing projects, keeping resources aligned with program and organizational roadmaps.
• Communicate project status and escalate issues to managers, program managers and internal and external development partners.
• Manage relationships with outsourced partners and suppliers, covering deliverables, quality, schedules and costs.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction.
• Handle people management: hiring, annual performance plans, coaching and career development.

Required profile

• First-level university degree or equivalent experience; an advanced degree may be held.
• Typically 5 or more years of related work experience, including 0-2 years of people management experience.
• Manages at least 4 employees, typically 8 to 15 direct reports, and reports to a manager or director.

Required skills

• Strong leadership, coaching, team-building and conflict resolution skills.
• Advanced project management, including time and risk management and resource prioritization.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills, and ability to manage human capital across geographies.
• Verbal and written communication, including negotiation, presentation and influence; mastery of English and the local language.
• Good understanding of company policies and processes.
