Insert Technician I

About the role

Insert Technician I responsible for fabricating inserts, supporting set‑up, inspecting fixtures and performing assembly operations in accordance with Cooper Vision procedures. The role ensures high‑quality machined components using advanced metrology and supports production schedules to meet delivery dates.

Key responsibilities

• Set up and operate the Optoform lathe, assemble material, program cuts, machine parts and perform surface inspection with radioscope.
• Conduct radius and surface‑form metrology using interferometers, shadowgraph and laser marking systems to achieve sub‑micron tolerances.
• Enter design specifications into the batch control system and maintain accurate manufacturing records.
• Perform 100 % inspection at assigned manufacturing stages and ensure calibration of all metrology equipment.
• Support equipment maintenance, repairs, and refurbishment, including EDM machine operation for toric scribe lines.
• Follow SOPs, LOTO procedures and safety guidelines while maintaining a clean insert shop.

Required profile

• Technical school graduate or associate degree in Tool & Die Making or equivalent experience.
• Experience in a high‑technology engineering environment, preferably medical device or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints and work instructions with minimal supervision.

Required skills

• Operation of Optoform lathe and laser marking/etching equipment.
• Advanced metrology using interferometers, shadowgraph, micrometers, calipers, profile projectors and toolmaker microscopes.
• EDM machine operation for toric scribe line processes.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
• Knowledge of FDA GMP/QSR regulations and LOTO safety procedures.
