AI Engineer - Software Development Tools

About the role

Hewlett Packard Enterprise is looking for a junior-to-mid-level AI Engineer to design, develop and deploy AI-powered solutions that improve the productivity, quality and efficiency of software development across the company. The role works closely with software engineers, architects, DevOps teams and engineering leadership to turn high-value developer workflows into Generative AI, LLM, agent and intelligent automation solutions. It is hybrid, with about two days per week spent in an HPE office.

Key responsibilities

• Build and integrate AI/GenAI capabilities into coding, code review, testing, debugging, build, CI/CD and release processes.
• Build applications using LLMs, RAG, AI agents, tool calling, MCP, embeddings and vector databases.
• Develop AI assistants and automation that help engineers understand code, diagnose failures, generate tests and resolve issues.
• Integrate AI with engineering systems, APIs, source-code repositories, CI/CD pipelines, issue tracking and developer environments.
• Design agentic workflows that reason over engineering data and take actions through approved tools and APIs.
• Evaluate models, prompts, agents and architectures for accuracy, latency, cost, reliability and developer value.
• Set up AI quality evaluation, including automated evaluation, human feedback, regression testing and monitoring of AI-generated results.
• Work with development teams to turn their pain points into practical AI solutions, and instrument AI apps to measure adoption and impact.
• Take part in design and code reviews, architecture discussions and engineering best-practice initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, AI/ML or a related field.
• 2-6 years of software or AI/ML engineering experience with production-quality software.
• Hands-on experience building applications with Generative AI and LLMs.
• Ability to work with software developers and translate engineering problems into technical solutions.

Required skills

• Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript, with good software engineering principles.
• LLM APIs, prompt engineering, embeddings, RAG or agent-based applications.
• REST APIs and microservices.
• SDLC, source control, CI/CD, testing and debugging.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms, containers, Kubernetes or modern deployment practices.
• Preferred: MCP, agent frameworks, vector databases, RAG architectures, LLM provider models, AI evaluation frameworks and developer productivity metrics.
