Senior Engineer - Cybersecurity R&D

About the role

Hewlett Packard Enterprise is hiring a Senior Engineer for its Junos Cybersecurity R&D organization within the HPE Networking business unit. The role provides technical leadership on a team building secure routers, switches and firewalls running Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved, covering system security features, applied cryptography, security certifications and Secure Development Lifecycle (SDL) practices, including AI-assisted vulnerability discovery. The position is hybrid, with about two days per week in an HPE office.

Key responsibilities

• Support security certifications including NIST FIPS 140, Common Criteria and the EU Cybersecurity Resilience Act (EUCRA)
• Develop and enhance product security capabilities such as certification gap analysis, risk-based threat modelling, static and dynamic code analysis, penetration testing, hardware security assessments and AI-enhanced vulnerability management
• Track new cybersecurity technologies, contribute to the cybersecurity roadmap with technical leaders and management, and lead hands-on execution of the roadmap
• Influence decisions of engineering managers, platform teams and product line managers
• Mentor less-experienced staff and promote excellence in cybersecurity design and development

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity or an adjacent technical field
• Typically 6-10 years of experience
• Experience driving product security certifications (FIPS 140 and Common Criteria) from gap analysis through to third-party lab submission, and ability to ramp quickly on EU CRA
• Experience using AI systems for defensive security, including vulnerability discovery and management, with awareness of AI governance and human-in-the-loop approaches

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of networking security protocols (TLS, SSH, IPsec) and cryptography in networking products
• Programming experience, with C preferred and Python; Rust is a bonus
• Deep knowledge of cybersecurity and strong technical communication skills
