Director, Engineering

About the role

Fairmont El San Juan Hotel, a luxury resort on Isla Verde Beach in Puerto Rico near Old San Juan, is looking for a Director of Engineering. The Director is responsible for all administrative, financial and operating aspects of the hotel that relate to the engineering division, and for the safe and profitable operation of the hotel.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and train Engineering staff in customer service, empowerment, standard operating procedures and loss prevention standards, and set their schedules
• Create and adhere to the department's annual budget, and develop financial forecasts for monthly profit/loss reviews
• Develop and implement plans to keep property, equipment, grounds and other assets in good repair, and run a preventative maintenance program
• Ensure compliance with local, state and federal laws and with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
• Inspect, test and certify emergency and life safety equipment, and handle room maintenance requests promptly
• Respond immediately to alarms, determine their cause and report findings to the Front Desk
• Manage vendor contracts controlled by the engineering department, support hotel programs and take part in special projects, renovations and the MOD program
• Take part in energy conservation programs and review guest and meeting planner comment cards

Required profile

• 4-year college degree with at least 1 year of related management experience, or a 2-year degree with 3+ years of related management experience
• Five years of progressive facilities management experience or a related field
• Engineer's license preferred
• Preferred: CPR/first aid and food safety certifications; required: annual health certificate, good conduct certificate and responsible alcohol service certification
